I've had a camera in my hand since my father gave me my first one when I was seven. He and I set up my first darkroom before I was ten.

I studied at Pratt Institute, Rhode Island School of Design, and Harvard Graduate School of Design and had a 25-year career in architecture before I committed to photography full-time.

My goal is to make images with emotional impact, rather than straightforward documents. Often they have the indistinct, soft feel of dreams or memories. The computer is a vital tool in this process. The images are shot with both film and digital cameras and printed with archival inks and papers.

I have been a jewelry collector and appreciator all my life. I started making my own pieces with semi-precious stones and glass beads several years ago, to expand my own collection and also as relief from my more stressful work as a novelist and editor. (To learn more, see www.hollychamberlin.com.)

To date I've designed over 500 necklaces, with bracelets and earrings to complement them. I'm inspired by the color and texture of the stones I work with, and I look for fresh ways to use scale and surprise in my jewelry.
